While Google Webmaster Guidelines actively discourage the use of pages, subdomains, and domains with “substantially” duplicate content, and there are some penalties for those who do so, it quickly becomes clear that the search engine does not consider content duplication “serious.” Or rather, not as serious as a site that installs badware or creates doorway pages, which are significantly more penalized.
When are they “not recommended”?
According to Google's official blog, "Duplicate content on a site is not grounds for a penalty unless the duplicate content appears to have a deceptive intent to manipulate search engine results." Search engines aim to offer variety to their users : it goes without saying deb directory that if we were to copy content, Google would be less inclined to publish it within the first page where the same text is already present. Instead, priority will be given to varied, more in-depth content and, above all, content from a single and as complete a voice as possible.
There are many tools and instruments that allow us to find and intervene on duplicate content on our site . One of these is the Google Search Console . From the Diagnostics > HTML Suggestions section it is in fact possible to determine the most frequent errors, including duplicate title tags, duplicate meta descriptions and other key information.
In case the duplicate content is on our site, it is possible – without deleting it – to use specific codes to “explain” to the search engine that one of the two is the original content, while the other is not. The rel=canonical tag is usually the most used solution for this purpose.
